“Careers in Long-Term Care Award”

Florida Medical Directors Association (FMDA) invites student health care practitioners who are interested in long-term care practice to apply for the Careers in Long-Term Care Awards program.

FMDA will be awarding three (3) awards of up to $2,000 each.

Qualified recipients will be required to present a poster at FMDA’s Annual Conference, “Best Care Practices in the Post-Acute & Long-Term Care Continuum 2012,” October 25-28, 2012 at Disney's Swan & Dolphin Hotel
in Orlando. The subject of the posters may be about any aspect of the following categories in any long-term care setting: clinical care, pharmacology of medicine, medical education, history of medicine, medical direction, medical care delivery, medical ethics, or economics of medicine.

Participants chosen for this program will receive the following benefits:

  • Complimentary registration to Best Care Practices in the Post-Acute & Long-Term Care Continuum 2012.

  • Opportunity to be considered for an educational grant up to $2,000.

  • Complimentary regular FMDA membership for one year, starting on the date of the annual program.

Eligibility:
The Careers in Long-Term Care Awards program is open to all medical residents and fellows who are Florida residents who are in geriatrics, family practice, and internal medicine and who are interested in practicing in long-term care and geriatrics, including:

  • PGY II or III Internal Medicine or Family Practice Residents

  • PGY IV or V Geriatric Medicine Fellows

In addition, Florida resident nurse practitioner and physician assistant students who are interested in practicing in long-term care and geriatrics are also eligible to apply.
Previous participants are not eligible to apply.

Application Procedure:
The application deadline is Sept. 21, 2012. Applicants must complete an online application and e-mail their curriculum vitae (CV) and letter-of-intent essay, no more than 250 words, describing their interest in long-term care practice and why they will benefit from participating in this program.
Applicants will be required to pay their own travel, meals, and hotel expenses, etc. to attend FMDA’s Best Care Practices in the Geriatrics Continuum 2012.

Method of Selection:
FMDA’s Careers in LTC Awards & Poster Presentations Committee ranks each applicant according to his or her essay, poster submission, and CV; and makes selections based on the highest scores. The Committee chairman is Naushira Pandya, MD, CMD, associate professor and chair, Department of Geriatrics, Nova Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine in Fort Lauderdale.
